Do You Know Giving Zakat is a Practice in Islam For Muslims

Zakat, when given to people who are genuinely in need, has been known to improve their lives through several means, including:

– Providing them with a stable source of money,

– Providing them with an incentive to work,

– Improving their sense of dignity and increasing their self-respect because they are not reliant on others’ help.

Zakat is also given to people in food or clothing, while some people give Zakat in mixed forms (food and clothing). There has been much discussion about whether it is better to provide Zakat with either in exclusively one kind or another, i.e., strictly food or strictly clothing. The Hanafis say that it is better to give Zakat only one type of sound so that the person giving Zakat will know which poor person gets which specific donation. However, another opinion says that if the donor provides Zakat in varied forms. The recipient will be free to spend it on whatever they wish.

The benefits of giving Zakat are numerous and many

Giving Zakat is an integral part of one’s faith as a Muslim and can help people around them and themselves. It is considered one of the five pillars of Islam and without it. One cannot claim to follow the religion. There has been much discussion about whether it is better to give Zakat either exclusively in food or clothing. But no matter what, some good will come from any amount given with the right motivation. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told his followers: “Even meeting your brother with a cheerful face is an act of charity.”

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also said: “Charity given to a poor person brings reward similar to giving charity to all the poor people. But charity given to relatives does not bring any reward. Except for the one equivalent to the number of relatives assisted multiplied by the number who are still alive. Similarly, benefit in respect of any property donated will be equal only to its market value.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

These quotes show that giving help in whatever form is rewarding and beneficial.

Zakat can mean many different things, depending on how someone interprets it. The most basic interpretation would be obligatory alms-giving or compulsory charitable donations, two separate concepts in Islam. In the context of obligatory alms-giving, Zakat is a form of worship and a requirement for Muslims. Because it purifies one’s wealth by increasing it while also gaining many more rewards.
